The project “Suggested for you” is a visual inventory that explores identity and categories of femininity, analysing how our self-image is shaped and distorted by the exposure to filtered content in the social media echo chamber.
The artist identifies societal types, personas, and objects that populate her feeds across various social media platforms, with a particular emphasis on Instagram's "Suggested for You" feature. The tool offers a seemingly infinite series of recommendations generated by a specific algorithm and based on information gathered from the user, showing us accounts and content tailored to our interests.
This intense personalization induces pervasive forms of behavior modification and psychological manipulation, altering and limiting our perceptions of reality.
The “suggested” images extrapolated from the artist’s social media feeds are successively re-created by blending AI and self-portraits and organised in charts that depict an artificial alter ego—a doppelgänger engaged in various activities and poses, inhabiting a world constructed by the algorithm's manipulation of the artist reality.
Through the generation of an algorithmically nurtured replica of the artist, born from an iterative and limitless sequence of suggestions, this visual database of interchangeable fictional selves and objects serves as a critical examination of the oppressive influence of social media over our reality.
